The Internet becomes more sociable

We’re changing. Our relationships online and in real life are shifting as we become more public with our private lives. Online social networks have helped our real world social networks transcend time and space making it easy (and seemingly essential) to share the triumphs, tragedies, and trite moments of life. No longer do you simply tell your best friend that you’ve broken up with your boyfriend. It feels natural to many people to tell hundreds of Twitter followers, and Facebook friends.

No matter how you feel about the appropriateness of over sharing, the shift towards a public private life ischanging our expectations of the relationships we create online. Remember the websites of the late 1990’s and early 2000’s that used formal language to create a professional, guarded persona and brand? The trend was towards the serious, because it seemed like you couldn’t land clients or entice new users if you weren’t stuffy.

Ronda, the white village of Andalusia

You will feel a real excitement when you drive across the city’s central square and look out to the sides of the gorge that divides this amazing town. The main street in Ronda crosses the famous and spectacular 100 feet deep gorge, which divide the city into two. Ronda is rightly the most famous white village of Andalucia,  enthroned on this  high rock. Tourists hanging over the edge to get a feel for this of awesome and historic city in heart of Southern Spain, just 40 min from the coast and Marbella. The old town is reminiscent of the Romans and Arabs – and Spanish renaissance and baroque palaces and the churches. Ronda is also home to Spain’s oldest bull ring, made legend by the American writer and bullfiighteraficionado Ernest Hemingway and actor Orson Welles. Ronda offers passion, history and beauty. Monday blues, life in a tumble dryer

Right now I’ve never been busier in my life! It’s a complete whirlwind – and the only thing I wish I had more time for is my family – my lovely kids Christina,  and Chris.  Although we are looking to change all this in June when we plan to migrate back to the wonderful familiar surroundings of Sweden, yes Caroline’s home country. That will be a good time to try and make some fundamental changes in my life and make time for more quality time with the family.   But for now, I really look forward to Friday nights when we can pack up and spend the weekends together at least. That’s what it’s all about!

Damn it is only Monday!

Hotels interacting with Social Media

As some of you might know I am co-owner of IGH Hoteles in the South of Spain, a small independent hotel group in Andalusia with big ambitions. Currently we have 5 properties in Ronda and Malaga, but have further new properties being added to the portfolio over the next few month, the first addition is scheduled to open in March in Seville.

We have just completed the first group website for IGH hoteles and we are very pleased with the result. I am the architeqte behind the structure of the stite and it was my aim to introduce a hotel website with a Social media twist. Utilising Twitter for announcing special offers and news. A Facebook group that will offer a loyalty sheme for all members and a Flickr account to hold a vast image libary for all the properties and the area about the hotel.

When you are looking to book a hotel online, its my opinion that you are looking at so much more than just pictures of a bed, bath room etc.You want to get a feel for the hotel property I went to see and stay in each our own properties and attempted to photograph the “property soul” as well as the area just around the property so that the prospective client would look at get a feel for what could be installed for them.

The site utilises Social media to boost internet rankings and over the next few months I hope to see the site popularity rise and more guests coming to our properties, you are all welcome!

Become a Gmail Ninja

Gmail is far and away the best online email management system out there right now. But a lot of people still use it like a regular email service, never touching some of its power-features that can really help with email overload. So Google launched a new Tips area of the site today to serve as a reference point for how to become what it calls a “Gmail Ninja.”

I have just achieved Blackbelt and all my email accounts have been migrated to Gmail now, I can tell you it works like a dream and I am definitely not missing Microsoft Outlook one bit.

Why not try it yourself?…Become A Gmail Ninja! Or Look Like A Huge Nerd Trying :-)

Simple backups with Dropbox

Where is that backup when you need it?? We have all been there, when we need that backup the most it just not there or upto date. Some of us have an external harddrive, but honestly do you really keep it up-to-date day by day. Avoid the hassle of backups and still stay safe. Dropbox is a new and great Cloud Technology option for all your PC users out thereand those of you with less the 2G of data backup it is all free. Dropbox is so simple to use, backup your important files, share files or even use it to synchronise multiple computers if you work on two or more machines.

Here is how it works, a small folder Icon apears on your desktop and you simple drag the documents you need backed up or are looking to share with others into that folder and like magic it gets syncronised onto your online Dropbox account. Now your can access your documents anywhere, anytime and even share certain documents with friends or collegues. Works like dream, so simple…try it out!

Will we “Bing” it soon?

After a faulted takeover attempt of Yahoo, Microsoft launches its own search engine called “Bing”. But the question is will this really work or is once again too late, not because of a lack of trying. First attempt MSN really did not have any impact at all on Google, if anything it seems to have made Google even stronger and with a raft of new great products from Google in recent months, it seems to me that Microsoft once again offered up too little and too late. But I might be wrong, I guess time will show. They will enforce it on you and I bet they will stuff it into the Explorer browser, so you cannot get rid of it. Thank God for Firefox and Chrome. Just remember if you are a frequent user of maps and images searches from Google then stick to Google. It will be a while before Bing catches on.
